Northrop Grumman Receives $5.1B Navy Welfare Check

Another aircraft carrier? Where is this one going to be deployed, Lake Ontario? I mean, come on, we already have enough airspace coverage and air superiority. What we really need to invest in is the ground troops, their technology and equipment. Another aircraft carrier is not going to help route out terrorists from their caves. Only ground troops with proper intelligence can do that.  

Ahead of the Bell: Northrop Grumman gets Navy deal – Shares of Northrop Grumman Corp., which just suffered a serious setback in its high-stakes battle against rival Boeing Co. for a lucrative Air Force tanker contract, could see increased activity Thursday after the Navy awarded the military contractor a $5.1 billion deal to build an aircraft carrier. On Wednesday the Pentagon again delayed plans to award a $35 billion contract for 179 Air Force refueling planes, handing a victory to defense contractor Boeing (nyse: BA – news – people ). Although earlier this year the Defense Department awarded the tanker contract to Northrop and its partners, a General Accountability Office report found flaws in the decision. Since then Boeing and its congressional supporters have exerted heavy – and successful – pressure on the Pentagon to defer a decision.
