Another aircraft carrier? Where is this one going to be deployed, Lake Ontario? I mean, come on, we already have enough airspace coverage and air superiority. What we really need to invest in is the ground troops, their technology and equipment. Another aircraft carrier is not going to help route out terrorists from their caves. Only ground troops with proper intelligence can do that.

On Wednesday the Pentagon again delayed plans to award a $35 billion contract for 179 Air Force refueling planes, handing a victory to defense contractor Boeing (nyse: BA – news – people ). Although earlier this year the Defense Department awarded the tanker contract to Northrop and its partners, a General Accountability Office report found flaws in the decision. Since then Boeing and its congressional supporters have exerted heavy – and successful – pressure on the Pentagon to defer a decision. Within a few hours of the Defense Department’s announcement Wednesday, the Navy separately said it was awarding Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman (nyse: NOC – news – people ) a $5.1 billion contract to build the USS Gerald R.
