My 2025 Year end Spotify Analysis…

Oh boy, my year-end Spotify analysis. My overall music listening is skewed by this as I only listen to Spotify when I’m in the car driving (zoom zoom in the Mazda CX-50 TPP). At home, it’s hi-res audio streaming with Qobuz and Tidal and that’s mainly jazz standards, think Coltrane and Miles, Blakey and Brian Blade then progressive jazz, think Tigran Hamasyan, Anouar Brahem and Mathias Eick.

So here are the Spotify stats and I’m not surprised.
– Top genre is progressive rock
– most listened to song is Empire State of Mind
– most listened to artist is Rush
– most listened to album is Rock in Rio by Iron Maiden
– 9% of Spotify users share my music choices
– .02% of Spotify users share my Rush affliction (boat is named Hemispheres after all)…

well, after almost 20 years…

Today my Facebook account was disabled with no warning. When logging in, it only has two options, download my info or go to the help center. I go to the help center and it says to log into FB and fill out the appeal form, which clearly doesn’t exist. so there’s no way to recover my account and it says it’ll be deleted in 30 days if I don’t appeal. But there’s no way to appeal. All the friends, connections, memories….gone. I don’t think I’ll be creating a new one.

perspectives

We’ve definitely dodged a bullet here with Hurricane Erin. She stayed offshore. We just have minor flooding here on the innerbanks. I look at the photo of the storm taken from a satellite. Then I came across an article about Voyager 1. It explains how far it will travel in a million years. It won’t even relatively make a dent in the Milky Way and just reminds me how insignificant and small things can be. It shows how large things can become and realizing what’s important can be lost in a snap of a finger. So appreciate the moment and the people in your lives.

manatees!

Mumphrey the Manatee pays a visit to Hemispheres and moves in to the slip next door. If you’re out on your boat and come back in, wait for the manatee to leave your slip. Only then can you come in and tie up.

Notice the four scars, most likely was struck by a boat’s propeller and probably more than once. A few videos of it breathing….and farting🤪

Flexible Lithium Battery Charging with Orion XS and Balmar Regulator

Done….got the Victron Orion XS 12/12 50A DC charger installed. The never-ending optimization for charging lithium batteries.

As I have a Balmar 6- Series 100amp alternator with the MC-614 external regulator, figured it would be a breeze. It’s too much of a breeze and I want some more customization. The default profile on the 614 shuts down the alternator way too soon. I want continuous duty from the alternator when motoring down the waterway, albeit with light duty. Might as well use the alternator for 12v power instead of batteries. Doing a custom config is too detailed for me.

So now using a 12/12 charger from the start battery to the house to get what I want. I like that the Orion XS is infinitely configurable. It has on-the-fly adjustments. It switches from charger mode to power supply mode to provide constant voltage for systems.

The MC-614 profile is set back to flooded. Based on the selector switches, I can still charge the lithium directly. I can also use the Orion XS for charging (yes, I have the alternator temp sensor installed too). I’m liking this setup so far. Seems to suit my needs and what I’ve been looking for. Simplicity yet flexible charging and usage options. I need to do a full diagram.

The connection between fear and knowledge…

Physicist and chemist Marie Curie on the connection between fear and knowledge:

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
