So I’m watching Lord or War, it’s a movie about arms dealings. At the end of the movie during the credits, an interesting point was made. The top five arms dealers are the U.S., the U.K., France Russia and China. Coincidently, all five are also permanent members on the U.N. Security Council. The Security Council is the part of the UN charged with maintaining peace and security among nations.

The entire African continent is virtually at war, and these five countries supply the majority of the weapons, while maintaining that they are trying to create peace and stability within the region. That’s like getting someone hooked on drugs then putting them in rehab just long enough to clean up and return to drugs.

Oh..wait a minute….

Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama spoke on the 42nd anniversary of the 1965 Selma voting rights march, a turning point in the civil rights movement that led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act. On that day, police, enforcing Gov. George Wallace’s ban on demonstrations, attacked more than 500 protesters with tear gas and batons as they marched from Selma to Montgomery.

Not that they’re obligated, but no Republican candidate came to Selma? They probably don’t even know the history of today’s date. My opinion, I think they should have had that on their agenda, regardless if the area is a Democratic stronghold. Or maybe they just didn’t want to offend their extreme right constituents.

A woman accused of running a prostitution service catering to men in the Washington area is threatening to sell her list of 10,000 clients to pay for her defense, as well as subpoena her clients to testify if the case goes to trial, her attorney said Friday. Oh yeah lady, drop the bomb. Release the list. I see Vegas betting all over this one because you know there are politicians involved.

Palfrey, 50, of Vallejo, Calif., was indicted on federal racketeering charges this week in U.S. District Court in Washington. She did business in the area under Pamela Martin & Associates, advertising in newspapers, on Web sites and in the Yellow Pages. Federal authorities said the call-girl service, which had been operating since 1993, hired college-educated women to cater to men in hotels and homes in Washington and its Maryland and Virginia suburbs. In 13 years, the service employed 132 women, all at least 22 years old and who had other jobs, and generated about $2 million in income, they said. "Ms. Palfrey adamantly disputes the government’s claims of illegal behavior," according to her legal defense Web site, where she began seeking donations after the government raided her home in October. Authorities seized about $1 million worth of real estate and $500,000 in cash and stocks from Palfrey, said her attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley. To raise money for her defense, Palfrey is considering selling her phone records dating to 1993. The records include the clients’ phone numbers, Sibley said.

Oh yeah, it’s about time. A comedy/horror film about sheep striking back. Attack of the killer sheep. The trailer looks good too. It’s being released in New Zealand the end of March, no mention about a US release, but we’ll be looking out for this one.

I find this part funny when referring to nuclear weapons: "replace older, less reliable warheads with a safer version". So "less reliable" as in not enough dead and "safer version" as in more effective. I hope Iran doesn’t listen to BBC World News, no way they’ll stop their program now.

The new warhead, due to be operational in five years’ time, will be used to replace Trident missiles on submarines. ‘No arms race’ Making the announcement, US officials said the plan was simply to replace older, less reliable warheads with a safer version.

How bad is the insurance issue in the Gulf coast? How difficult is it for people to collect on their claims to have their homes rebuilt? Really bad. Look at it this way. Trent Lott, a predominant Senator, had to join a law suit before he could collect on his claim after he lost his home. Wow, now these insurance companies must really have some clout when a sitting senator has to join the rank and file.

So the general responsible for Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been fired. The solution? Replace him with the general that was previously responsible for the hospital when the complaints originally started. Is it me or is the Pentagon just trying to save face here. Now, this general was just posted this past August so realistically, didn’t have much time to make the necessary repairs. But as with most "leaders" when challenged, deny there’s a real problem and explain them away instead of outright admitting that there’s a problem, and what steps are being developed to correct them. That’s all he had to do. Recognize and admit the problem, then state your plan to correct them.

And to top it of, military personnel at the hospital must now have approval prior to talking to the media.
