I’m not even sure what words to write here as this is wrong on so many levels. CNN is just no longer relevant anymore regarding news and the public interest. But apparently, the ratings will hold up and people will tune in to hear the words of Paris Hilton (which CNN obviously paid money for). And what about our healthcare crisis that Moore is addressing, well, apparently it’s not as important, so he’s getting bumped for a later date. The real crisis is that Americans will tune in to see The Paris Crisis, and will forget about the real issue until they get sick. Then they’ll start complaining, until maybe Brittany does something dumb and she goes on Larry King…

To make room for Paris on Wednesday, CNN canceled its interview with Michael Moore about his new health care documentary SiCKO: Hotel heiress and reality TV star Paris Hilton will give her first post-jail interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Wednesday, the show’s spokeswoman said on Saturday. “She will be on for the hour,” Bridget Leininger told Reuters. “We had (filmmaker) Michael Moore originally scheduled for that time.” CNN, the “most trusted name in Paris news,” continues to sink to new lows in its “assault on reason.” Hilton is the latest “serial obsession,” though the network recently hired a reporter devoted to “covering things like Britney, as well as the Michael Jackson memorabilia.” Now CNN has ditched coverage of America’s broken health care system in favor of an hour-long interview of an incarcerated socialite.

US frustrated at lack of Iraqi reconciliation – Financial Times – MSNBC.com The Iraqi government has not made any substantial progress on political reconciliation since the US military surge began, the top US commander in Iraq warned on Sunday. The US surge was intended to provide the Iraqi government with breathing space to implement political reforms aimed at reducing tensions between Shia, Sunni and Kurdish groups. But US officials and military officers have become increasingly frustrated with the inability of the government to make progress.

Here in America we can’t get political or racial reconciliation and this is a country "high" on morals and is prosperous. So the administration expects to have this in a war torn country with warring cultures and religions and an occupying force? Hmm, must be part of the do as I say – not as I do doctrine.

Now to show just how much this is getting out of control with private contracting, military generals in Iraq are protected by private contractors? Where the hell is the military? We’ve exhausted all our military police (MP’s) for security? And the notion of private contractors, or mercenaries, which is really what they are, is very troublesome to me. So what happens when one of these mercenaries kills innocent civilians and children? What legal jurisdiction do they fall under? Or are they exempt from prosecution.

Iraq Contractors Face Growing Parallel War – washingtonpost.com BAGHDAD — Private security companies, funded by billions of dollars in U.S. military and State Department contracts, are fighting insurgents on a widening scale in Iraq, enduring daily attacks, returning fire and taking hundreds of casualties that have been underreported and sometimes concealed, according to U.S. and Iraqi officials and company representatives. While the military has built up troops in an ongoing campaign to secure Baghdad, the security companies, out of public view, have been engaged in a parallel surge, boosting manpower, adding expensive armor and stepping up evasive action as attacks increase, the officials and company representatives said. One in seven supply convoys protected by private forces has come under attack this year, according to previously unreleased statistics; one security company reported nearly 300 "hostile actions" in the first four months. The majority of the more than 100 security companies operate outside of Iraqi law, in part because of bureaucratic delays and corruption in the Iraqi government licensing process, according to U.S. officials. Blackwater USA, a prominent North Carolina firm that protects U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, and several other companies have not applied, U.S. and Iraqi officials said. Blackwater said that it obtained a one-year license in 2005 but that shifting Iraqi government policy has impeded its attempts to renew. The security industry’s enormous growth has been facilitated by the U.S. military, which uses the 20,000 to 30,000 contractors to offset chronic troop shortages. Armed contractors protect all convoys transporting reconstruction materiel, including vehicles, weapons and ammunition for the Iraqi army and police. They guard key U.S. military installations and provide personal security for at least three commanding generals, including Air Force Maj. Gen. Darryl A. Scott, who oversees U.S. military contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I don’t have much to say about this other than it shows that once you break up, go your separate ways. Some women just can’t handle being friends afterwards. What she did is worse than the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. I call it the One Nut Shearing Hand Technique.

Amanda Monti, 24, flew into a rage when Geoffrey Jones, 37, rejected her advances at the end of a house party, Liverpool Crown Court heard. She pulled off his left testicle and tried to swallow it, before spitting it out. A friend handed it back to Mr Jones saying: "That’s yours." Monti admitted wounding and was jailed for two-and-a-half years. ‘Pulled hard’ Sentencing Monti, Judge Charles James said it was "a very serious injury" and that Monti was not acting in self defence. The court heard that Mr Jones had ended his long-term but "open relationship" with Monti towards the end of May last year. The pair remained on good terms and on 30 May she picked him up from a party in Crosby and went back for drinks with friends at Mr Jones’s house. An argument ensued and Mr Jones said there was a struggle between them. In his statement, Mr Jones said she grabbed his genitals and "pulled hard". I am in no way a violent person Amanda Monti He added: "That caused my underpants to come off and I found I was completely naked and in excruciating pain." The court heard that a friend saw Monti put Mr Jones’s testicle into her mouth and try to swallow it. She choked and spat it back into her hand before the friend grabbed it and gave it back to Mr Jones. Doctors were unable to re-attach the organ. In a letter to the court, Monti said she was sorry for what she had done. She said: "It was never my intention to cause harm to Geoff and the fact that I have caused him injury will live with me forever. I am in no way a violent person." The letter added: "I have challenged myself to explain what has happened but still I just cannot remember. This has caused much anguish to me and will do for the rest of my life."

You might find this one a bit hard to swallow but …. what if this dropped on our soldiers by an act of friendly fire? Would the conservative right still support the troops? Not that they really support them anyway, look at the situation at the VA hospitals. But I do find this story, comical to say the least.

cbs5.com – Pentagon Confirms It Sought To Build A ‘Gay Bomb’ (CBS 5) BERKELEY A Berkeley watchdog organization that tracks military spending said it uncovered a strange U.S. military proposal to create a hormone bomb that could purportedly turn enemy soldiers into homosexuals and make them more interested in sex than fighting. Pentagon officials on Friday confirmed to CBS 5 that military leaders had considered, and then subsquently rejected, building the so-called "Gay Bomb." Edward Hammond, of Berkeley’s Sunshine Project, had used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain a copy of the proposal from the Air Force’s Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. As part of a military effort to develop non-lethal weapons, the proposal suggested, "One distasteful but completely non-lethal example would be strong aphrodisiacs, especially if the chemical also caused homosexual behavior." The documents show the Air Force lab asked for $7.5 million to develop such a chemical weapon.
