All that unused bandwidth in cable….
Cablevision is upping their speed, which now tops out at 50Mbs down and 5MBs up. So what’s the story? Competition from Verizon with their FIOS service.

So why are we in the Triangle stuck at 5MBs with Time Warner Cable. Because for some reason, the FCC thinks that because there’s a cable company and a phone company located in the same region or state, that there’s competition…funny.

Today, I can’t call another cable company for different services or rates. If I want cable, I MUST call Time Warner and submit to whatever they have. Our only hope of getting better service from our cable company is to hope that Bellsouth will step up and do something with their offerings, but that’s a pipe dream….

Pat Robertson warns Pa. town of disaster

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson warned residents of a rural Pennsylvania town Thursday that disaster may strike there because they “voted God out of your city” by ousting school board members who favored teaching intelligent design.

“I’d like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don’t turn to God. You just rejected him from your city,” Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “700 Club.”

Ok, so first he calls the the asassination (munder) of a foreign politician, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Oddly, many people didn’t see much wrong with that. Next, he’s a phrophet that declares a disaster “may” strike their town because they voted out God. He Pat, that’s for helping the terrorists select their next location. While you’re at it, is there anything further you want to do that is detrimental to our country? Hey, maybe you can form the North American chapter of the Taliban, since you have so much in common ….

10 Years ago, microsoft sounded the marching orders and got on the Internet bandwagon. Today, they’re shifting again, recognizing it’s beneficial to their survival and market dominance. It seems that .Net is out and Services is in.

Both execs [Gates and Ray Ozzite, the CTO] argue for a revamped Microsoft that taps advertising to fund software development, delivers software online, and lets customers trial-run software before buying. All of this should “just work,” writes Ozzie.

And to put more salt on the would and explain where services is going: “Microsoft is a latecomer to its latest cause. The pioneer of advertising-based software delivery, Google (nasdaq: GOOG – news – people ), has sales of $4.5 billion. Marc Benioff founded business software-as-service firm Salesforce.com (nyse: CRM – news – people ), in 1999. Salesforce is up to $237 million in sales. Both have richer values on Wall Street. Google trades at 44 times next year’s earnings, Salesforce at 85 (Microsoft trades at 17).”

What an official statement from Sony. In case you haven’t been following this story, Sony has been installing hidden software on users’ computers that have purchased their music CD’s that have DRM (digital rights management) on them, to prevent copying. To make it worse, if you’re a computer expert and find the well hidden code, you can’t remove it without damaging you OS installation. Adn their response??

“Most people don’t know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it,” Thomas Hesse, president of Sony BMG’s global digital business, said in an interview with National Public Radio on Friday.

And why is Sony being of such little help in removing this, and still continuing with their underhanded tactics. Because Sony knows what most corporations know. The consumer is not that bright, has a very small memory span, is the herd, and will continue to purchase from them after a week or two of flashy advertising. Essentially, consumers are the “battery” from the film, The Matrix.
