Christian Conservatives and Selective Memory

Read a great article today about the Justice department finally setting up a Civil rights office in Alabama. Apparently, burning down churches and murdering children in them wasn’t enough.

Anyway, I digress from the original thought. On the new immigration law in Alabama, here’s a biblical quote for all you strong religious bible thumping conservatives:

Exodus 22:21: “You shall not wrong or oppress a resident alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.”

Get it, did that jog your selective memory? Or for some reason, you just don’t recognize that part of the bible…..

AT&T CEO voices regret over iPhone unlimited data model

I have a great idea for AT&T. Get rid of the dumb texting plans and other absurdities, and just charge for metered data. Of course data should be metered and it unlimited. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone saying “I should pay a flat fee for my electricity”. Instead of the insanely marketing driven price plans, just charge by the MB. A penny per MB, which is you $10/GB. People can realistically watch their usage and know what to expect based on what they use.

Here’s another nifty idea. Have two types of data. One price for regular data access, and another for streaming data access, that should obviously cost a user more because it costs more to provide. BTW, I’m not a marketing major, just someone with a bit of common sense. Feel free to fire your marketing department and you can use my consultative services for a much lower cost….

It’s always refreshing to hear the head of a major corporation cop to past mistakes — particularly in front of a large crowd of on-lookers. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson admitted some misgivings about the way the carrier handled iPhone data, telling a crowd at the Milken Institute’s Global Conference in Los Angeles, “My only regret was how we introduced pricing in the beginning, because how did we introduce pricing? Thirty dollars and you get all you can eat.” Stephenson drove the point home by adding, “Every additional megabyte you use in this network, I have to invest capital.”

And, for the record, that certainly wasn’t the only thing about the iPhone that kept the exec up at night. Stephenson again,

You lie awake at night worrying about what is that which will disrupt your business model,” he said. “Apple iMessage is a classic example. If you’re using iMessage, you’re not using one of our messaging services, right?

A Comment to MP Claire Perry

Dear Clair, your comment that any change know access is delivered is censorship is, well, exactly right. It’s censorship. Let’s talk abut what really scares you, the global awareness and education of people to the point where you are questioned. Plain and simple.

Overly Critical Guy writes “British Prime Minister David Cameron will announce network-filtering plans targeted at porn websites, possibly requiring users to ‘opt-in’ with their ISP to access such content. The idea has support from MP Claire Perry, who said, ‘There is a “hands off our internet” movement that sees any change in how access is delivered as censorship.'”

Europe Agrees To Send Airline Passenger Data To US

Note to self, there is no such thing as “fully anonymized” when taking into account the storing of your information by the gov’t or any company whose business model is based on advertising or selling information. Period.

Europe Agrees To Send Airline Passenger Data To US

Qedward writes “The European Parliament has approved the controversial data transfer agreement, the bilateral PNR (passenger name register), with the US which requires European airlines to pass on passenger information, including name, contact details, payment data, itinerary, email and phone numbers to the Department of Homeland Security. Under the new agreement, PNR data will be ‘depersonalized’ after six months and would be moved into a ‘dormant database’ after five years. However the information would still be held for a further 15 years before being fully ‘anonymized.'”

Not missing the premium channels

It’s been over six years since not having HBO, Stars or Cinemax. In reading an article today about HBO adding HDCP copy protection for HDMI, and requiring folks with older equipment to upgrade, I just realized that I haven’t even missed having it.

I think this is a great opportunity for people to drop that channel, their shows may be good, but not THAT good. Nt enough to put up with their absurdity. When enough people drop them, they’ll change their practices, or maybe not. Anyway, whats this game of thrones thingy about anyway?

HBO not having me as a customer is not that big of a deal, after all, I’m just one customer……

Arizona racing Texas to be the craziest.

I’m hoping that this means I can declare my sperm as dependents on my taxes.

Today Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law a bill that will radically redefine when life begins for an unborn child.

A State Senate amendment to the bill, H.B. 2036, states that a fetus’ life starts not at conception, but up to two weeks before then—“from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman.”

Wyoming wants an aircraft carrier, not an Onion article either.

This absurdity is for real. Apparently, the Wyoming state house is really, really bored with apparently nothing to do. First of all, how the heck are they going to get this thing towed along Interstate 80? Second, where are they going to put it? Third, how will they hide it? They don’t have a lake big enough. I know, paint it camo green and hide it in the woods, propped up on blocks. Then have mechanical, retractable trees part like the Red Sea to launch the aircraft.

Wait, they were buying aircraft with this carrier, right? Or were they just going to have Dick Cheney stand on the deck with a shotgun. Let’s all just have a good laugh on this one and nervously move on…

Wyoming state representative Lorraine Quarberg (R-Thermopolis) has proposed Wyoming House Bill 85, which will prepare Wyoming for the day that the USA collapses. It includes an amendment proffered by Rep. Kermit Brown, which establishes a task force to investigate “conditions under which the state of Wyoming should implement a draft, raise a standing army, marine corps, navy and air force and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier.”

Lamar Smith, read the Constitution

Lamar Smith, not content with his previous SOPA lunacy, want to just go all out nuts. Masking under the guise of fighting child porn, he wants everything you do online logged, and ISP be forced to hand it over to any government agency. No warrent, no cause, just give it up. Apparently, the 4th amendment in the Constitution that guards against unreasonable search and seizures no longer applies.  Exactly how do these folks get in office??  Probably due to too many Americans watching American Idol or Jersey Shore to pay attention to what their gov’t is doing…..and Congress thanks you very much for that.

Too many fallen heroes have given their lives to protect our very rights and freedoms. Don’t let their loss be in vain. Send these disillusioned “representatives” packing….

Lamar Smith (R-TX), author of the ill-starred SOPA Internet regulation, has an even dumber idea for the Internet. In the name of fighting child pornography, he wants to force ISPs to log everything you do online, then make it available to police and government agents without a warrant. Leslie Meredith has a writeup on the mounting opposition to Smith’s latest act of unconstitutional lunacy:
