Today, for the first time in my life. I contributed to a presidential candidate. Looking at the current state of affairs in our country, and the choices we have for presidential candidates, I felt that it was time to put my money where my mouth, and heart is. The more I listen to this man, the more I believe that he is genuine, honest, and dignified. The republican party has not one front running candidate, not one, that I trust and feel is credible. Each of them have flip-flopped and pandered. Each of them have way too much excessive baggage and no clear intention to do what is right for America. But a quick mention to Rep. Ron Paul, who’s party will not nominate because he’s too much of a leader, and honest.

So on to the Democrats. Hillary, simply cannot be trusted. Nor can she ever admit that she has ever made a mistake. When asked if she made a mistake regarding voting for the war, her response is simply that we need to look to the future. Well, if enough senators and representatives stood up and voted their conscience, our future would have been different. Instead, they cowed down, always putting their re-election bids first, and sent our sons, daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers off to war. All the while, not providing a clear mission, timeline, resources or training. All they did was get on the bandwagon of giving Nero absolute powers.

Senator Obama had the courage to vote against the war, not because he didn’t believe in America or that he’s soft on our enemies, but because he know the true cost of war. That it’s an absolute, that it is the loss of all civility. And because he didn’t believe the stories coming from the administration due to lack of evidence. He wasn’t concerned about his constituencies vote back home, he was worried more about his country, a sign of a leader. Sure he doesn’t have a lot of experience in government, or in foreign policy or national policy. But what he has character, dignity, and is trustworthy. I am confident that he will surround himself with quality advisers , and hopefully, from both sides of the aisle. I would LOVE to see him include Colin Powell and Ron Paul in his administration. So what if they’re from the other party. We’ve had "experienced" politicians and advisers in the office before and now, and look where it’s gotten us.

I’ve been a republican for over 20 years now. So while I cannot lend my support via a vote during the democratic primary, sir, you’ll have my vote in the general election on the second Tuesday of November 2008. And I will watch the swearing-in in it’s entirety.

So why is a black republican supporting a democrat? And why am I a republican being black in the first place? I guess it has to to with my upbringing. My parents didn’t have much, they were immigrants, proud, and hard workers. They instilled in me a work ethic, and dignity, and that I must provide for myself. But they also taught me humility and compassion, and that as a Christian, it’s my responsibility to help and take care of those who cannot help and take care of themselves. Those that choose not to help themselves, well, you’re on your own.

On a side note, is America ready for a black president? Probably not, but this country needs to grow up sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.

Union Leader – Granite Status: Romney no fan of CNN/YouTube debate antics – Thursday, Jul. 26, 2007

Union Leader – Granite Status: Romney no fan of CNN/YouTube debate antics – Thursday, Jul. 26, 2007 Republican Mitt Romney isn’t sure yet whether he’ll participate in the CNN/YouTube.com Republican debate in September, but he’s no fan of the format. "I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman," he said in an interview yesterday.

In other words, he’s not going to answer to the American people. He’s not interested in hearing real America, their concerns and pain points. He’s not going to be a leader. But he will dodge questions, he will answer carefully scripted questions where he doesn’t have to give an honest answer. And he will say anything to get into the White House. Mitt Romney: not interested in Americans, just wants to lead Americans….

ABC News: FBI, IRS Search Home of Sen. Ted Stevens

tedI guess they’re looking for some stolen vacuum tubes, a bridge to nowhere, and most importantly, millions of taxpayers dollars hiding in a pigs belly somewhere. It’s about time. Oh how sweet it would be to see this one fall. But not to fear, the Justice Dept. won’t do anything, they’re too busy trying to clean up after Alberto …..

ABC News: FBI, IRS Search Home of Sen. Ted Stevens Agents from the FBI and Internal Revenue Service on Monday searched the home of U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens, an official said. Investigators arrived at the Republican senator’s home in Girdwood shortly before 2:30 p.m. Alaska time, said Dave Heller, FBI assistant special agent.  Justice Department Heller said he could not comment on the nature of the investigation. The Justice Department has been looking into the seven-term senator’s relationship with a wealthy contractor as part of a public corruption investigation.

U.S. Senate position vs. Sith Lord Cheney

According to the US Senate homepage, this is the statement regarding the VP and his position. Apparently, the Sith Lord disagrees with the Sentate. Look for the Senate to be disbanded and a new law to take hold throughout hte new empire.

U.S. Senate During the twentieth and twenty-first centuries the vice president’s role has evolved into more of an executive branch position, and is usually seen as an integral part of a president’s administration. He presides over the Senate only on ceremonial occasions or when a tie-breaking vote may be needed.

So after many many hours, (10 to be exact), I get an email from ATT that they’re working on my activation and I have a reference number, as though I can do something with that.

Another update. hey threw me for a loop. I get a third email, thinking it was it !!!!  Nope, just information about my *new* service and how I can call if I have any questions. We’re now at 26 hours ….

San Jose Mercury News – iPhone activation problems cause lots of headaches

San Jose Mercury News – iPhone activation problems cause lots of headaches A spokesman for AT&T, however, said that the glitches had been minor and isolated, and that the company was working to fix them on an individual basis. "The vast majority of iPhone activations on iTunes are going through in a matter of minutes," said spokesman Ted Carr. "Many of the situations causing a delay are being resolved in a matter of hours. But we are not experiencing any significant.

So ATT says they’re being resolved in a matter of minutes/hours? I know several people that have purchased the phones from last night to this morning. Not one of them has an activated phone as of yet. So who’s phone is being activated? Right now, I have a very expensive paperweight called the iBrick, along with a $36 non-activation fee. There’s really no point in calling ATT, we know the canned response and there is simply nothing you can do….

AT&T iPhone activation…painfully long

From the iphone.org site…

Does the following sound familiar: you rushed home with your new iPhone, plugged it into your computer, loaded up iTunes, and started zipping through the activation process. After selecting a plan, perhaps setting up an iTunes account, and agreeing to a few sets of terms – you were just about ready to use your iPhone. Then, it happened. “It”, in this case, refers to the “your iPhone activation requires additional time to complete” message that seemingly countless iPhone customers have received.

Subsequently, users who receive the wait message receive an email from Apple’s iTunes store which states the following: “AT&T is now processing your activation. You will receive an email confirmation once your activation is complete.”

There are mixed indications from AT&T about what is causing the delays. AT&T representatives have suggested individual account issues, overwhelming activation volumes, and delays related to porting numbers from other networks. Though most customers who have actually gotten to speak with AT&T customer service (hold times are over an hour in most cases) report being told they can expect a 2-6 hour wait, some have reported being told they may not have their iPhones activated for 24-72 hours.

Most customers who are in the activation waiting period have also already had their existing phone’s service disabled by AT&T, further increasing the frustration involved in waiting.

It’s worth mentioning that the iPhone is, in a sense, useless without activating it. Short of being able to make emergency calls, there’s little one can do with their new iPhone except play with the unlock slider on the “Activate iPhone” screen. And folks, despite those who might feel like it is, your iPhone not being activated is NOT an emergency – so please resist the urge to call 9-1-1 and complain to them. Besides, they can’t help.

For those of you that have contacted iPhoneFAQ looking for answers to these activation issues, check back to this post, we’ll update information here as it becomes available.

(Updated – June 30th, 11:20am EDT) AT&T customer service has indicated that pre-existing AT&T customers waiting for activation with their previous phone already disconnected can remove the SIM card from the iPhone, place it in their other phone, and use that for calls while waiting for thieir iPhone activation email. According to AT&T, doing such will not interrupt or affect the waiting activation.

Disclaimer: we’re not supporting this information from AT&T or suggesting you do anything but wait. However, for those of you who may need to place urgent calls, this may be an option to exercise.

Thousands of tech faithful snap up first iPhones | Reuters

I love this guy’s comment,
Thousands of tech faithful snap up first iPhones | Reuters "The phones out there are just garbage. Ive gone through several phones, even the expensive ones. This is different," said Albert Livingstone in Chicago. "Its the newest toy. Im 62 — I dont have much time left to buy toys."

And AT&T due to their compassion, is helping out people with poor credit by doing pre-paid minutes for iPhone customers. Bad credit = buying a $600 phone???
Although a service contract costing at least $1,400 over two years was widely thought to be mandatory, AT&T revealed to Reuters late on Friday that buyers with bad credit can obtain prepaid service, meaning they pay up front for call time.

Tainted fish from China detained – USATODAY.com

Wait a minute. We import catfish from China? Catfish??? Every southern state that has a lake, river or pond has catfish in it. And we have god only knows how many catfish farms are in America. And we have to ship catfish from half way around the world ??? What’s next, apple pie? Wait, hang on.

Tainted fish from China detained – USATODAY.com WASHINGTON (AP) — Imports of five species of farmed Chinese seafood will be detained until they can be shown free of potentially dangerous antibiotics, federal health officials said Thursday. RARE COMMENTARY: All exports are safe, Chinese official insists The Food and Drug Administration said it would detain three types of fish — catfish, basa and dace — as well as shrimp and eel after repeated testing has turned up contamination with drugs unapproved in the United States for use in farmed seafood. The announcement was the latest in an expanding series of problems with imported Chinese products that seemingly permeate U.S. society, from its playrooms to its prisons. Beyond the fish, federal regulators have warned consumers in recent weeks about lead paint in toy trains, defective tires and toothpaste made with diethylene glycol, a toxic ingredient more commonly found in antifreeze. All the products were imported from China.
